Check with your group leader about what is included in your trip budget.  Travelers checks are not valid in Honduras.  Most people find it convenient to have a small amount of both US dollars and Lempira with them during their trip.  There are some "extras" available to you at the Lazarus Lodge such as horseback riding, soft drinks, and souvenirs (see Link).  There is an ATM at the airport and in Choluteca, but there is not one at the mission site.  All travelers are recommended to change money at the airport with officials designated by Mission Lazarus staff or to withdrawal from one of the ATMs.
