    Flory Dalia

Meet Juana Sanchez and nine month old Flory Dalia. Flory Dalia is severely malnourished. At nine months she only weighs 7 pounds 7 ounces. The Sanchez family lives in a mud and stick hut outside of Choluteca in the village of Montesillo. Last Sunday morning Juana and Flory Dalia showed up at church in Limon looking for J.B. They had received medical treatment at a private clinic in Choluteca. The physician and his wife are friends of J.B. and thought that he might be able to help this very poor family. Not only is Flory Dalia severely malnourished, she also has pneumonia.

It turns out that last Sunday morning Juana and Flory Dalia walked between four to five miles to the market in Choluteca where mother Juana then begged for change to pay for the bus ride to Limon in hopes of finding someone to help her sick little girl.

    Meet Harim Jafeth

Meet Harim Jafeth. Little Harim was born with a hole in his heart. 14 month old Harim's heart is now the size of a 90 year old woman's. If Harim did not receive an unavailable in Honduras heart surgery he would have died before age 2.

Harim's case came to Misión Lázaro almost six months ago. The Misión Lázaro medical team, led by nurse practitioner Allison Brown set up an electrocardiogram in Tegucigalpa. After undergoing the electrocardiogram the cardiac specialist broke the bad news to Harim's mom, 24 year old Senaida. Without heart surgery her son would die. A surgery that is not available in Honduras. Allison Brown began researching organizations that carry children to the US for medical procedures. Childspring International out of Atlanta Georgia seemed to be the most promising. Many times applying with these organizations is a shot in the dark. The paper work can seem endless and the communication problems from Honduras to the US at some times made the entire process seem hopeless. But it was not!

    Makela Rios

How long has it been since you cried? I don’t mean a few tears, I mean an all out emotional cry that when you finish it leaves you tired, but yet feeling peaceful. I can’t remember the last time that I did; I guess it must have been when my grandfather died when I was a sophomore in college. Isn’t that strange, so much heart ache, pain, and suffering all around us and we have become immune to it; “Does it really matter to me? I am doing fine, besides I have a lot going on at work.”
